In some instances, the sophisticated and high technology is generally above the common understanding of the consumer.   It is quite tough for one to understand why a 46-inch 1080p LCD HDTV of the same brand is $400 more costly than the 46-inch LCD HDTV 720p flat screen which he has at home.   Though both the televisions are of the same size and apparently seem the same, the picture quality differs a lot.   

 

The LCD or Liquid Crystal Display method was created in 1960 where the technology of light-bending capacity of rod-shaped molecules in crystal was used.  The LCDs are very common these days and the technology is still very much in use.  Today, the LCD technology is applied in computer monitors.   Most flat screen TV nowadays uses the technology where you can now have the pleasure of viewing crystal clear picture on the monitor.

The term 1080p is just indicative of the number of lines displayed and how they are displayed.   The more number of lines the TV has the sharper and better picture it will display.   The TV sets of yesteryears had a standard of 480 lines.   The more the lines the better will be the resolution.   The image is created on the TV by the ‘i’ and ‘p’ following the lines.   These are the short forms of progressive and the interlaced terms.   The more preferred scan is the progressive scan as it processes the image much faster than the interlaced scan.

Generally the 1080p LCD HDTV is more expensive than the 720p.   Few people think that the difference in the picture quality is so little that buying the 720p set is a more wise decision.

The LCD TV has very low power consumption and emits less heat too than the plasma.   The plasma TV has a good viewing in low light but the 1080p LCD HDTV has better picture quality in ambient light.
